A few fall steps keep your turf strong through the cold months and ready to green up fast in spring.
Eastern Iowa winters are tough on lawns, but the work you do in fall matters more than anything you can do once the snow arrives. A little prep now means a faster, greener comeback next spring.
Don't put the mower away too early. Keep cutting at your normal height until the grass stops growing, then drop to a slightly shorter final cut to reduce the risk of matting and snow mold under winter snow cover.
